―― アメリカでは３大ロングトレイルでAltraシューズのシェアが圧倒的に高いそうですが、アウトドア文化に造詣の深いAltra とand wander、 2つのブランドを融合させることで実現させたかったこと、こだわりたかったことを教えてください。

「Altraとand wanderは、モノづくりにおいて強い情熱をもった創業者によって誕生し、アウトドアの可能性を引き出す高性能で技術的に優れた製品を生み出してきました。and wanderはクロージング、Altraはフットウェアを通じて、それぞれの分野でその理念を体現しています。型にはまらない発想をもち、共に山をフィールドとするブランドとして、今回のコラボレーションに無限の可能性と、本物の価値を感じました。

―― Altra shoes are known to hold a large share of the market among hikers on the three major long trails in the U.S. With both brands rooted in outdoor culture, what were you hoping to achieve by bringing together Altra and and wander? What aspects did you focus on most?

Both and wander and Altra were born from passionate founders that have created performance and tech forward products that help you discover the power of the outdoors. and wander with apparel and Altra with footwear. With a disruptive mindset and the mountains as both of our playgrounds, we saw limitless possibility and authenticity in collaborating.

―― 今回、デザイナーの池内は、Altraへの機能面への信頼から、今回のモデルは素材や形状はオリジナルのTIMP BOAからは変更せず、サーフェイスのデザインに注力しました。ALTRAからand wanderへは、具体的にどのようなリクエストがあったのでしょうか？

「私たちからの主なリクエストは、and wander独自の美学を、Timp 5 BOAの技術的な特長と融合させることでした。両ブランドの理念を反映しつつ、シューズのパフォーマンスを損なわないデザインを目指した結果、BOAフィットシステムとVibram Megagripアウトソールを搭載し、洗練された汎用性の高い“グラナイトグレー”のシューズが誕生しました。都会のストリートでも山岳トレイルでも、その魅力を存分に発揮できる一足になったと思います」

―― For this collaboration, Designer Keita Ikeuchi chose to keep the original materials and structure of the TIMP BOA, trusting in Altra’s technical performance, and instead focused on the surface design. What kind of requests did Altra make to and wander for this model?

Our main request to and wander was to merge their signature aesthetic with the technical capabilities of our Timp 5 BOA. We aimed for a design that speaks to both brands' ethos without compromising the shoe's performance. The result is a sophisticated, versatile shoe in granite grey, equipped with our BOA Fit System and Vibram Megagrip outsole, which is as stylish on city streets as it is capable on mountain trails.

―― 完成したコラボレーションのカラーリングやデザインに関して、どのような点が気に入っていますか？また、これまでのAltraシューズにはない、発見や気づきがあればお伝えください。

「特に気に入っているのは、デザインに取り入れた控えめなリフレクティブディテールです。視認性を高めるだけでなく、実用性とスタイルの両方を重視する両ブランドのスタイルにマッチする独自の美的要素を加えています。今回のコラボレーションを通じて、機能性を損なうことなくパフォーマンスギアにライフスタイル的な要素を取り入れる新たな可能性が広がりました」

―― What do you particularly like about the final color and design of this collaboration? Were there any new insights or discoveries compared to past Altra shoes?

I’m particularly fond of the subtle reflective details that we integrated into the design, which not only enhance visibility but also add a distinctive aesthetic touch that aligns perfectly with both brands' focus on utility and style. This collaboration has opened new avenues in incorporating lifestyle elements into performance gear without sacrificing functionality.

―― 今回のモデルは、どんな人に、どんなシーンで着用してほしいですか？ また、今回のコレクションを着用して、ご自身がトライしたいアクティビティがあれば教えてください。

「今回のコラボレーションモデルは、パフォーマンスアクティビティから日常使いまで、幅広いシーンで活躍する一足です。トレイルランニングやハイキングはもちろん、街歩きまで対応できる汎用性の高さが特徴です。個人的には、コロラドの山々を家族と一緒に探索する際に履くのがとても楽しみです。どんな地形や距離でも快適さを保ちつつ、ミニマルなグレーのカラーリングがスタイリッシュな印象を与えてくれると確信しています」

―― Who do you envision wearing this model, and in what kind of settings? Also, is there any activity you personally would like to try while wearing this collection?

The Timp 5 BOA and wander collaboration can be used for a variety of performance activities as well as everyday use. From trail running, to hiking, to exploring the city, this shoe can do it all. I am most excited to wear the shoe in the Colorado mountains while exploring the trails with my family. I know that no matter the terrain or distance, the shoe will keep me comfortable and looking stylish with the minimalist gray coloring.
